The unique artwork by the Miaz Brothers The Knowledge represents a still life inspired by a masterpiece of seventeenth-century Dutch painting.
The Italian duo often takes the works of the Old Masters and revisits them in its own unique style, giving them an air of mystery and opening up the possibility of new interpretations and suggestions.
Using airbrush and acrylic paint, they create enigmatic and evocative images with blurred contours that challenge our perception. The Knowledge belongs to a series of works that investigate the relationship between appearance and disappearance, genesis and death, drawing on the Vanitas, still lifes that were particularly popular in the 17th century, with allegorical elements that are taken up by the Miaz Brothers. Skull, hourglass and candles allude to the transience of beauty and life, reminding us of our ephemerality.
The Knowledge was created in 2020 using acrylic paint on a canvas measuring 128,5 x 96. The work is signed on the back.
