JonOne, artist who grew up in Harlem (New York), began his career by creating graffiti on the streets of the neighbourhood and signing with the tag Jon156. Street artist JonOne approached the official art world in 1987, when he moved to France, where he is currently one of the most appreciated contemporary artists, so much so that in 2015 he was awarded the Legion of Honour of the French Republic.
Colour brilliance, pictorial matter and calligraphy constitute the common denominators of his works. JonOne usually repeats his 'JonOne' tag in his canvases as well, keeping the link with writing alive. His style is an original synthesis of graffiti and abstract expressionism, from which he takes the dripping technique. His works, charged with colour and energy, convey dynamism and vitality, involving the viewer's emotionality.
The artist has taken part in numerous institutional exhibitions such as at the Fondation Cartier and the Grand Palais in Paris and at Palazzo Farnese in Rome. JonOne has also collaborated with major brands including Guerlain, Lacoste, Perrier and AirFrance.
