The work of Shepard Fairey Jesse Nubian is a silkscreen on paper finished by hand, numbered and signed in original by the artist.
This limited edition work belongs to the Brown Power series, for which Shepard Fairey has made portraits of several Afro-American figures who have fought for civil rights. All the works in the series are characterized by a palette of colors that refers to those typical of African art: red, black and green.
In this work measuring 76 x 104 cm, as in most of his works, Shepard Fairey addresses social and political issues that stimulate critical reflection in the viewer.
The protagonist of the opera is Jesse Jackson, an American activist - best known for his slogan "I Am Somebody" - committed to the forefront of the rights of African Americans since 1965.
The artist Shepard Fairey portrays Jackson with his fist closed up: a gesture made famous by the Black Power movement of the sixties.
At the top of Jesse Nubian stands the term "Giant" that refers to the iconic stylized face of the wrestler André the Giant, which for years is the identifying symbol of the artist Obey.
