The silkscreen on paper by Shepard Fairey (Obey) Andre Psychedelic belongs to a limited edition of 19 pieces, is hand-finished and signed in original by the artist.
In several of his works Shepard Fairey chooses the famous wrestler André the Giant as subject: symbol of his artistic production since he launched a sticker campaign using the sportsman’s face in 1989. In Andre Psychedelic Obey decides to modify the traditional black and white sticker design with the aim of drawing more attention to the original sticker.
Artist Shepard Fairey experiments with new colour combinations: from fuchsia to phosphorescent blue. In this work made in 2019, Obey explicitly refers to John Van Hamersveld’s image of Jimi Hendrix, and, in addition, he takes inspiration from the psychedelic posters of San Francisco’s historic club, The Fillmore.
This work measuring 76 x 104 cm has several psychedelic elements: from the aggressive colours to the fuchsia patterns on the background which recall to subject’s hair.
