PURE EVIL – SHARON TATE-ROMAN POLANSKI’S NIGHTMARE-IN FLAMES
The work Sharon Tate - Roman Polanski’s Nightmare - In flames is part of the Nightmare series and represents a unicum: the artist Pure Evil, in fact, finishes it entirely by hand with markers and ink, starting from a silk screen with a blue background.
In Sharon Tate-Roman Polanski’s Nightmare-In flames Pure Evil portrays the Hollywood actress Sharon Tate looking at her with a sad look, as if she knew what was going to happen to her on the night of her murder. Sharon Tate, in fact, was killed in 1969 by members of the Manson Family sect, just at the time when she began her rise in the world of cinema. As with all the other iconic characters at the center of his work, Pure Evil inserts his characteristic tear on the face of the Hollywood diva - as well as the wife of director Roman Polanski - with the aim of highlighting the drama he lived despite the fame.
The Welsh artist embellishes this work on paper by repeatedly repeating his tag - the bunny with fangs - on the bust and neck of the subject.
Pure Evil exhibited this work measuring 70 x 85 cm on the occasion of the solo show Not my circus, not my monkeys that the Milan office in Wunderkammern dedicated to him in 2022.

Pure Evil, stage name of Charles Uzzell-Edwards, was born in Wales in 1968 and later moved to London where he became passionate about street style and skateboarding. It was his long stay in California, however, that introduced him to the world of graffiti. On his return to the UK in 2000, he began painting on the streets of the London suburbs, signing his tag, a rabbit with tusks, alongside the works of some big names in Street Art: Banksy, D*Face and Paul Insect.
Pure Evil draws inspiration for his works from Pop Art, in particular the portraits of Andy Warhol. In his most important series Nightmare, the artist Pure Evil portrays public figures and American film stars - from Marilyn Monroe to Jackie Kennedy - on which a characteristic tear runs down, symbolising the disillusionment and pain that is often hidden behind fame.
Pure Evil has exhibited in galleries around the world and participated in numerous group exhibitions and festivals, from the United States to Hong Kong, from Australia to Brazil.
