The work of the PichiAvo Untitled (Dionysus and Ariadne) is a work made with black ink on paper, applied on plasterboard.
Untitled (Dionysus and Ariadne) is the preparatory sketch for the works Dionysus and Ariadne A and Dionysus and Ariadne B. This drawing reveals how the two works constitute a single subject, in fact they were painted on the same support subsequently fragmented to obtain two independent pieces.
The subjects of this sketch are Bacchus, Greek god of wine and harvest, and Ariadne, a figure known mainly for the myth of the Minotaur. The PichiAvo portray them on a chariot pulled by four panthers, scene that refers to the marriage between Bacchus and Ariadne, knowledgeable on the island of Naxos, where Ariadne is abandoned by Theseus; here Bacchus finds her and asks for her in marriage.
This work of Valencian artists is a representation of their Urban Mythology. In their works PichiAvo blend classical Greco-Roman art and the world of graffiti. The two artists are inspired by the urban landscape of Valencia, where they met in 2007 and still live and work, and the archaeological finds they study during their travels.
In Untitled (Dionysus and Ariadne) the PichiAvo artists draw the two subjects on an urban background that takes some recurring elements in the writing universe: the writings with the can, the tags and symbols as stylized faces.
