The work of the PichiAvo Orphic Hymn to Nike II is a unique piece made with spray paint, acrylic and oil on canvas in 2019.
At the center of the composition stands a classic statue depicting Nike, or the deity personification of victory in Greek mythology. The deity is represented in this painting on a chariot, drawn by two horses and on the sides there are two other female figures. The background is characterized by bright colors and references to the world of graffiti, letters, symbols; there are references to the classical world, always in a street key, for example the genealogical tree of the Greek gods and the inscription "Clásico = digno de imitación".
In their works PichiAvo are used to combine graffiti and classical art, inspired by the urban landscape of Valencia and the Greco-Roman finds they encounter in their travels. Street artists PichiAvo define their style "Urban Mythology", just to explain the original union between urban art and classical art.
This work was performed by the artists PichiAvo with their characteristic technique: the two at first lay several layers of color on the canvas, then add the references to writing and only in the final phase represent the mythological figure in a hyperrealistic way, applying a light painting that generates an effect of transparency.
Orphic Hymn to Nike II was presented and exhibited at the EVREKA museum exhibition in 2019 at the Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporanea in Valencia and is published in the exhibition’s official catalogue. On the occasion of this exhibition, the artists created a dialogue with the architectural environment using both the interior space and the external spaces of the cloister.
