JONONE – WUNDERKAMMERN MIRROR INSTALLATION

The work Wunderkammern Mirror Installation #3 by JonOne is part of an installation of 18 unique pieces painted by the artist with inks of different colors on mirrored aluminum, each measuring 40x40 cm.

The French street artist created Wunderkammern Mirror Installation by performing at the opening night of the Sun-Downs exhibition held in 2022 at the Wunderkammern headquarters in Rome. During the performative action the artist JonOne filled the mirrored surface infinitely repeating his tag "JonOne Rock", thus highlighting how Calligraphy is a pivotal component of his artistic research.

Vitality, energy and explosion of colors are characteristic elements that are often found in his works, JonOne, in fact, also in these works takes inspiration from Abstract Expressionism and New York Graffiti.

JONONE - BIOGRAPHY

JonOne, artist who grew up in Harlem (New York), began his career by creating graffiti on the streets of the neighbourhood and signing with the tag Jon156. Street artist JonOne approached the official art world in 1987, when he moved to France, where he is currently one of the most appreciated contemporary artists, so much so that in 2015 he was awarded the Legion of Honour of the French Republic.

Colour brilliance, pictorial matter and calligraphy constitute the common denominators of his works. JonOne usually repeats his 'JonOne' tag in his canvases as well, keeping the link with writing alive. His style is an original synthesis of graffiti and abstract expressionism, from which he takes the dripping technique. His works, charged with colour and energy, convey dynamism and vitality, involving the viewer's emotionality.

The artist has taken part in numerous institutional exhibitions such as at the Fondation Cartier and the Grand Palais in Paris and at Palazzo Farnese in Rome. JonOne has also collaborated with major brands including Guerlain, Lacoste, Perrier and AirFrance.
