Pussy Riot (London Grate) is a work by Dan Witz created in 2013 using a jet print on paper.
The subject of the work is a female face imprisoned behind a grate. The subject is immediately evocative of social and political issues, a clear reference to questions of freedom of expression and repression.
The grating, with its repetitive, geometric structure, provides a visually fascinating composition that plays with perception and depth, while the choice to render the face realistically through the shadows of the grating accentuates the viewer's desire to look beyond the obstacles to clearly see the person behind them.
Pussy Riot (London Grate) was produced in a limited edition of 36 and measures 56 x 43 cm.
