Body of Crisis is a 30 x 42 cm stencil on paper made by Hogre, a Roman street artist whose identity is unknown, in 2016.
In this work in shades of black and white, Hogre depicts a priest in the act of consecrating the host. However, Hogre depicts the symbol of the pound on the Eucharist, as if to invite the viewer to reflect critically on the corruption that has characterised the Vatican for centuries. The priest's nails seem to cling to the host like the claws of a bird of prey on its prey.
The urban artist is indeed known for his unauthorised and provocative interventions; political corruption, climate change, consumerism and capitalism are some of the most recurrent themes in his artworks. Hogre is wont to include linguistic subversions in his works, as can be seen in the title of the work, where he has transformed 'the body of Christ' into 'the body of crisis'.
The moniker Hogre appears in the bottom right-hand corner.

Hogre, an internationally established Roman street artist, lives and works in anonymity and is best known for his unauthorised interventions in public space. The artist Hogre began his career in 2006 when he provocatively covered Berlusconi's election billboards with red noses. His works are true Subvertising - a combination of the English terms subvert and advertising - which consists of the 'creative vandalisation' of billboards, inviting viewers to reflect on the massive use of advertising and commercial images in modern society. Linguistic subversions in order to unmask the mechanisms of capitalism are a further mainstay of Hogre's works. In the murals, he usually sign off with the drawing of a fly, his unmistakable logo. Hogre has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows and was also one of the protagonists of the Steal This Poster project presented by the MACRO museum in Rome in 2019.
