Born in Paris in 1951, Blek le Rat is considered to be one of the first internationally known street artists and the father of the stencil technique; Banksy and many other artists were inspired by his works. Blek le Rat began his artistic career in 1981 by painting his iconic black rats on the streets of the French capital - subjects to which he pays homage under his stage name.
