MICROBO AND BO130 - AS ABOVE SO BELOW (FRAGMENTS - CUT I)

The four-handed work created by Microbo and Bo130, As Above So Below (Fragments - Cut I), consists of a silkscreen print on paper finished by hand both before and after printing. This work belongs to a limited edition of 15 pieces, all dated, stamped and signed in original by the artists.

The title suggests how this unique piece is a fragment of a whole; in fact, the work constitutes the first of the three horizontal sections into which their work La visione di insieme as a whole has been divided.

In this Cut I, against a background of pink tones, one can recognise Bo130's iconic alien face, actually made up of multiple faces, and the characteristic filaments of Microbo's production. The two street artists Microbo and Bo130 draw the viewer into a universe studded with numerous elements - symbols, numbers, imaginary creatures, upside-down writing and geometric figures - which it is up to the viewer to grasp and interpret according to the dictates of hermetic philosophy.

In their works, Microbo and Bo130 often refer to Hermetic philosophy, a discipline that invites us to go beyond the surface and observe the world with a slow and attentive gaze in order to understand its hidden relationships.

This work - developed horizontally and measuring 98 x 22.5 cm - was created for the As Above So Below project conceived by Microbo and Bo130 and the Wunderkammern gallery in 2021, in anticipation of the double solo exhibition Expanded FunToMentalism in February 2023.

Microbo

Microbo - Biography

Microbo, a street artist considered to be one of the few female pioneers of Street Art internationally, was born in 1970 in Catania, Italy. The artist had a background in graphic design and was full of chance encounters, the most important of which was in London with Bo130, a Milanese artist with whom she established a deep collaboration that continues to this day. The two currently live and work together in Milan, where they produce works of art both individually and four-handedly. Since the beginning of her career, the Sicilian artist has been investigating the microcosm and is interested in microbiology, so much so that she chose the term 'microbe' as her stage name. Over the years in her works, Microbo has changed her approach to these 'invisible' worlds: initially she presented a more scientific attitude, while later she painted her creatures using her imagination and fantasy. The search for the invisible constitutes the central focus of his production, within which he uses a visual language composed of an ancestral organic alphabet of microbiotic creatures and filaments that seem to float in a timeless space. In 2005, Microbo and Bo130 published Izastikup, a unique collection of the most iconic 'self-made' stickers. Wunderkammern dedicated a double solo exhibition, Expanded FunToMentalism, to the two in February 2023. The artist Microbo has exhibited in prestigious museum institutions, such as MACRO - Museo d'Arte Contemporanea in Rome, MART in Rovereto and PAC in Milan.
