The Miaz Brothers, born Roberto and Renato Miaz, are two Italian artists born in 1965 and 1968, respectively, in Milan.
Currently, they live and work between London and Valencia. Since their beginnings, they have shown a strong interest in art in all its forms, embarking on a path of experimentation that has led them to travel around the world and explore different artistic techniques, including video, painting and photography.
The duo is known for its innovative approach to portrait painting. Skillfully using acrylics and airbrush, the Miaz Brothers create enigmatic works in which the subjects appear blurred and undefined, almost ethereal.
This unique technique aims to stimulate the viewer's visual and cognitive perception, inviting personal interaction and evoking individual mnemonic associations.
Throughout their career, the Miaz Brothers have received numerous awards. In 2010, they were awarded the International Biennial Prize of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Amposta.
The following year, they won the fifth edition of the prestigious Arte Laguna Prize in the Painting section. These awards consolidated their reputation in the international art scene.
The Miaz Brothers' works have been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions globally. Recent exhibitions include “Watch this space” at Lazinc Gallery in London in 2019, “Time is Now II” in Little River, Miami, and “Context Art Basel” also in Miami in the same year.
They also participated in major art fairs such as Contemporary Istanbul in 2015 and exhibited at the Museo del Carmen in Valencia in 2014.
The Miaz Brothers' work has attracted international media attention. In 2017, one of their works was chosen for the cover of the New York Times Magazine, bringing their art to a wider audience.
In 2020, they were featured in AD Italia magazine, while in 2019 their creations appeared in the TV series “Riviera”.
In addition, they made the cover of the album “LAURO - Achille Idol Superstar” by Italian singer Achille Lauro, demonstrating their versatility and ability to interact with different cultural spheres.
A significant milestone in the career of the Miaz Brothers was the museum exhibition “Reality: Optional. Miaz Brothers with the Masters of the 20th Century” at the Gallery of Modern Art (GAM) in Rome, which opened on February 24, 2024.
In this exhibition, the artists presented more than 30 new works that dialogue with masterpieces from GAM's permanent collection, offering viewers an immersive experience in the realm of perception and reinterpretation of 20th century art.
